Alex von Koettlitz Photography has been established since 1983. Throughout Alex's career he has developed a special interest in reportage, photographing creative people at work. The majority of Alex's work has been taken in this way, photographing people often in difficult circumstances in an unobtrusive way.

Alex became interested in photography as a boy when he was shown how to develop and print black and white photographs by his dad in the kitchen of the family home in Eastcote, London.

As Alex's interest in photography developed he was encouraged by Ervin Bossanyi, the internationally famous stained glass window maker and artist. Ervin encouraged Alex with commissions to photograph his work. A great privilege.

Between 1970 and 1973, Alex undertook apprenticeship at both the Peter Clark Studios and the John Arthur Studios. After which he embarked on work as an assistant photographer and as a photographer in his own right. In 1979, Alex formed Panic Pictures, with Chris Pearce, to specialise in Arts photography.

Subsequently, Alex has received commission from many household names (see the commissions section). One of these, from the BBC, continued for 16 years taking him worldwide, whilst photographing the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Commissions from EMI, Decca and Polygram included recording sessions with artists such as Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Nigel Kennedy amongst many others.

In the past, Alex was has been included on the Royal Roster. This allowed him to photograph, in close proximity, the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the Royal family.

In 2007 and 2008, Alex, as a partner of Picturehouse Photography, has undertaken commissions from Carte Blanche to promote the well known Tatty Teddy collection.

Currently based on the South Coast of England, Alex von Koettlitz Photography continues to provide outstanding work on a national and international level.
